Social Media Rules

Michigan Open Carry, Inc. has a few outlets for Social media as discussed on our resources page.  These rules are meant to govern participant activity on these social media (including Forum, Facebook Group, and Facebook Page).

Michigan Open Carry reserves the right to change, update, and/or modify these rules at any time. Upon changes, a notification of the rule changes will be posted on the social media outlets.

Your actions on MOC Social Media reflects upon MOC, this can and will determine your continued access to these social media resources.

Although the administrators and moderators of Michigan Open Carry will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of the leadership of Michigan Open Carry, Inc.

By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The moderators reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.

Community Guidelines

We take pride in keeping our social media resources respectful, pleasant, and enjoyable for members of all ages. Please read the following guidelines before posting.

1. We are a peaceful organization
Advocating or suggesting violence or violent rebellion/revolt/government overthrow will not be tolerated here.  Posting news articles discussing it is tolerable, so long as the thread doesn't devolve into such discussion.

2. Self-Promotion is SPAM
All posts are read by our administration and moderation team. If we catch questionable content, it will immediately be edited or removed for further investigation. Any post that is considered advertising for one's self-interests will be deleted.

While you are allowed to promote your web site(s) in your signature (Forum Only), you are not permitted to post links to sites you run or are in any way affiliated with in your posts. In addition, users are not permitted to post any kind of affiliate program link with referrer IDs. Repeat violators who post promotional content will be permanently banned.

3. No Advertsiing
Ads must remain constrained to the designated "For Sale"/"In Search of/Want Ad" area of the MOC Forums.  Advertising outside of these areas without the expressed permission of one of our administrators is prohibited.

4. Language and Trolling
Our community is family-friendly. There are young users and language should be kept within a PG-13 level. Vulgar language is not allowed. This constitutes the use of any kind of offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate material deemed unsafe for younger members. Inappropriate language will potentially be removed and users will be warned.

Do not post provocative, outrageous, or pointless messages only to get a response from others, i.e. "trolling." Repeat violators will be permanently banned.

Lastly, if it is abundantly clear that a user has no intention of positively contributing to Open Carry discussions, combined with an abrasive, combative attitude, they will be banned. This especially pertains to the OC Info board. Users must demonstrate an interest in contributing to OC discussions, as this is a Open Carry site after all. In other words, users who wish to do nothing but argue politics or other OC issues are not welcome as they do nothing to contribute to the site and are not worth the trouble and headaches.

5. Personal Attacks
In order to maintain a positive atmosphere, no personal attacks or insults will be tolerated. While discussions may become heated, it is not an excuse to result to attacks or insults. There is a difference between a passionate, respectful discussion and one that delves into personal matters. Think of it as debating issues, not individuals. When the line is crossed, the discussion may be closed by the moderation team. Violators will be warned and potentially banned.

6. Moderators and Administrators Have the Final Word
If you have a problem or a complaint, direct it to the administrators and/or moderators, not to the groups/forums. The appropriate actions will be taken. We reserve the right to ban flagrant offenders when deemed necessary, with or without prior warning.

7. Cross-Posting
(Forums Only) If you have something to post and you're not sure which board it belongs in, do not post it in more than one board. If the administrators or moderators think it would fit better in another location, it will be moved there. Duplicate threads only serve to create confusion.

8. Signature Rules
(Forums Only) A typical signature contains the poster's name, e-mail address, website, and a favorite quote or saying. Excessive font size are not allowed. Anyone abusing this privilege will be warned and then have their signature removed until they acknowledge this guideline.

9. Multiple Accounts Per Individual Are Not Permitted
If you forget your password, use the password recovery tool, in which case you will be able to reset your password, given that you have access to the e-mail associated with your account (Forums Only). If you are still unable to login, contact the administrator.

10. SPAM Rules
SPAM is very subjective, but is usually obvious.  If it is not, an opinion can be solicited from the moderators.

After review and a decision is made that a poster is posting SPAM, the account will be deleted/banned.

11. Registration and Password Requirements:
(Forums Only) Users of this forum have been hacked in the past by spammers and the maximum password security precautions have been implemented to make it harder for them to use automated tools to register.  Unfortunately, this also makes it inconvenient for our members, but is a necessary precaution.  End users are ultimately responsible for their own accounts and passwords.  An end users failure to use a secure password or allow another person to access their account could result in termination of their forums account.

The password requirements are as follows.

  • The password should be at least eight characters long, and must be four.
  • The password cannot be part of a users name or email address.
  • The password should contain a mixture of upper and lower case letters, and at least one number after the first character.
  • New registrations must pass multiple, randomly generated human interface test provided by the IT Department

12. Don't Hijack Threads.
It's not very nice and it can cause drama amongst our members and within the 2A community.  If you'd like to contribute an idea to a thread that diverges from the original topic, please consider starting a new thread.  You may make one post in the original thread about your new side-topic advising people to read that thread as well.  Original Posters that feel their thread may be being hijacked may report the hijacking post and a moderator will review.

13. Long Gun Open Carry
Recently, there have been a number of stories from Michigan and other states focusing on the topic of Long Gun Open Carry (LGOC). Good or bad, the events in these stories affect the efforts and goals of MOC.

While MOC's focus is and will continue to be openly carried holstered handguns, we will allow leeway when discussing the topic of Open Carry in general. However, due to our narrow focus, we feel we are ill equipped to answer questions about LGOC and suggest you seek the counsel of a skilled attorney should you have any.

Again, we ask that you please limit LGOC discussion to current news only and thank you in this regard.

If a discussion devolves into a debate about the merits (or lack thereof) of LGOC v not LGOC, it will be moved to the Ammo Dump, locked, deleted, or otherwise curtailed as many of us are tired of hearing the same debate on a regular basis.

14. Cite to Authority
Posts putting forward a legal position will require a citation to applicable statute or case law.  Posts not containing a cite that properly supports the post/comment will be removed at the admins' discretion.

15. No Blocking Group Admins (MOC Facebook Group)
Group Admins need to be able to communicate with Group Members, particularly to issue warnings.  Therefore banning group admins may be cause for your removal from the MOC Facebook Group.
